Pre-Shift Priming: 1 Simple Habit to Enter A Shift Ready to Rock and Roll

If you hear one hundred compliments and one insult, what do you remember? Of course, the insult.

  • Living with a negative bias has helped humans survive throughout history. Thousands of years ago, this mindset helped humans to hunt but also avoid predators, to gather food but also avoid poisonous plants, among many other examples.

  • However, our daily life in 2021 is massively different than it was back then. Living in the today’s world with this same negative bias can significantly hinder our happiness, teamwork, and lead to anxiety and depression.

  • How do we battle this? One proven method is by changing your focus.

  • Exercise: Notice the Good - While walking into the hospital before work, take ten seconds to think about all the things that have gone right for you that day. A few examples: The fact that your car started this morning, you didn’t trip and sprain your ankle walking in, you have money to buy some lunch for yourself, etc. These thoughts are simple, take zero extra time, and have been proven to make a big positive impact on your day. It’s not about mindlessly ignoring the bad, but rather priming your state of mind to handle challenges with a positive light as they come your way.

Give it a try tomorrow?

  • Dan 🙂
